Through an active community support program, the Maryland National Guard demonstrates that it is a good neighbor and community partner. The Guard and its soldiers and airmen are extensively involved in local community organizations and often participate in, or support, the events they sponsor.

Citizens and community organizations can also request many types of Army participation - such as a military band, color guard, exhibits, a speaker, or aviation support.

We typically provide support for Veteran's Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day public observances, but can also provide support for many private engagements.

Submitting Your Request

Requests should be submitted a minimum of 90 days prior to the event to be considered for support. Less than 90 days notice greatly reduces the chance that support will be available. Requests received 30 days or closer to the event will NOT be considered.

Once received, your request will go through a review process which takes approximatly 14-21 days. Once we receive your request, we immediately check the date and time that the support is required and our availability. We then consult our legal authority to insure that the request meets the legal guidelines as outlined in our regulations. In some cases it may be necessary to deny support of an event due to training and operational constraints.

Real World Missions

Requesters must recognize that real-world contingencies and training requirements take precedence over public events and any aircraft assets promised may be required to perform their assigned tasking and therefore are subject to non-availability at the last moment.

No Cost to the Government

Department of Defense policies require that Armed Forces participation in public events will be provided at no additional cost to the Government. The sponsor is required to pay, when necessary, the standard military services allowance for quarters and meals for all Armed Forces participants and for other services which have been determined in advance and agreed to by the sponsor.
