BENEFITS AND OFFERS

  • Medical Leave Act Extended to Military
A provision of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will alter the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to assist military family members who need to take unpaid leave to care for an injured service member. The new law allows the spouses, children, parents or other next of kin who provide care for an injured service member to take as many as 26 weeks of unpaid leave in a 12-month period. Normally, eligible employers are permitted 12 weeks of unpaid leave for such family emergencies. For more information, visit the Department of Labor's Family and Medical Leave Act webpage. CLICK HERE to read the article.

  • Organization Sponsors Free Flights for Wounded
Freedom Is Not Free (FINF) is sponsoring a program called Jets for Vets in order to ease the burden of the cost of transportation for wounded military personnel and their families. The program enables volunteers to make would-be empty travel seats available on private jets to those wounded while serving. "Non-conforming" relatives such as fiances, best friends, grandparents, and significant others who do not qualify for Department of Defense travel benefits may also take advantage of the program. For more information or to request a flight through the Jets for Vets Program, visit the Freedom Is Not Free website by clicking here.

  • HIRE A HERO PROGRAM
Hire A Hero works to help soldiers as well as their family members find great civilian careers in every state. As before, the program is free for job seekers and employers to use and it provides a variety of opportunities across all major industries. Employers are already lining up to support the program.

To increase the program’s effectiveness, we’re looking to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with the National Guard leadership in each state. After the MOU is signed, free training is provided on how the National Guard in your state can best use the program. The MOU also outlines ways in which Hire A Hero can provide you with leads to help with recruiting efforts.

If you have any questions about our new and improved program, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 760-539-1739 or mwelsh@hireahero.com.
